新加入選手は以下の4人
コー・フリッピン
小寺ハミルトンゲイリー
アレン・ダーラム
渡邉飛勇
コー・フリッピンと渡邉飛勇は日本人だがアメリカ育ち。小寺ハミルトンゲイリーは通算10年日本でプレイする日本帰化選手。そしてアレン・ダーラムはアメリカミシガン州の出身。とても国際的なチームを象徴するように記者会見は英語と日本語が飛び交った。
安永トップチーム統括と桶谷HCの談話は一部編集、新加入選手4人の談話はできる限り原文でお届けする。新加入選手4人のキャラクターも感じられるはずだ。
安永トップチーム統括
2016年9月22日、アルバルク東京と琉球ゴールデンキングスがBリーグ開幕戦を代々木で戦いました。この時は歴史あるアルバルク東京に胸を借りるつもりで挑んだが、結果は力の差を見せつけられました。
しかし同時に、キングスはもっと強くなれると感じた試合でもありました。
そしてキングスは4年連続西地区優勝を果たし、今年9月30日ホームアリーナにアルバルク東京と迎え、5年前の再戦となるカードでシーズンを開幕させて頂きます。開幕戦から力が入ります。2021−22シーズンも琉球ゴールデンキングスをどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
桶谷大HC
桶谷大HCは会見の冒頭、この社会情勢下でリーグを開幕出来ることへの責任と感謝、そしてスポーツを通して色々なエネルギーを届けていきたと決意を述べた。そして新加入選手4人をこう評した。
コー・フリッピン選手
沖縄に縁のある選手で、運動能力がとても高く、賢さも兼ね備えた類稀な選手だ。若いながらリーダーシップもあり、チームに合流して間もないがリーダーシップを発揮する場面も多々見られ、今季を通してチームを引っ張っていける存在になっていくと思う。
小寺ハミルトンゲイリー選手
とても気配りがありチームのまとめ役的存在。バスケットIQも高くパスセンスもあり、どこからでもワイドオープンの選手を見つけてパスをする事が出来る。チームメイトはいつ彼からパスが飛んできても得点できるような準備が必要になる。どこから得点チャンスが生まれるか分からない、敵にすると非常に厄介な選手だ。ディフェンス面でもフィジカルが強く、ジャッククーリーのバックアップとしてチームに貢献してくれると思っている。
アレン・ダーラム選手
スピードもパワーも有りいつでもミスマッチが作れる頼りになる選手。いつボールを預けても必ず何かをしてくれる。またパスも上手く、ヘルプが来ても味方にボールをさばきアドバンテージが作れる選手だ。
渡邉飛勇選手
特別な才能を持った若い選手で、リーグの中でもこれからの成長が楽しみな選手。将来的には日本代表のビックマンになっていくと思っている。高さと長さを兼ね備えた日本人選手としてチームにプラスになってくれる。そして自分の役割をしっかり受け入れて、チームが勝つ為に自己犠牲を払って貢献してくれる素晴らしいチームプレイヤーだ。
この4人が加入したことで、今季の琉球ゴールデンキングスのロスターの厚さは他チームにとって武器になっていくと思う。13人のロスターをしっかりまとめ彼らの長所を活かせるようなコーチングが出来るよう日々努力していきたい。
─今季はバランスより層の厚さを重視しているとの事だが、個性的な選手をどうまとめる？
今季チームでミーティングをしたのだが、このチームをまとめていくには本当に一人一人の自己犠牲が必要だ、という話をしました。自己犠牲というのが自分たちが与えたいものではなくチームが必要としているもの、それを全員がチームに与える事を皆でやっていこう。そうする事で、コート上の5人が自分たちの個性を活かしながらチームとしてのバスケットボールが表現できる。今シーズンはその自己犠牲という部分を強調してやっていきたいと考えています。
─昨季の主力メンバーも多く残るなか、今季の期待する選手、キーマンは誰になるのか？
キーマンは選手全員です。誰かがキーマンというのはその試合毎に出てくるかもしれないが、シーズン通してそれぞれの選手がそれぞれの立場で役割をしっかり果たす事。そして高い生産性のあるバスケットをする事。チームの中ではhigh productivity と呼んでいるが、その為には皆が自己犠牲を出さなければいけないし、個々がしっかりモチベーション高く持ってプレイする事、それぞれが隣の選手と協力し合って最大の生産性を出すというのがこのチームの1番の目標です。ですので一人がキーマン、という事は無いです。

─お母様が沖縄出身で自身も小さい頃に沖縄に来たと伺いました。その沖縄でプレイする気持ちは？
I mean, it's crazy because I used to watch it with my grandpa like on the TV when they first started playing and when the kings were like a small program and then back to even like six years ago when they were winning the title and then even few years ago, I went to a game and you know now I'm here having a press conference with you guys, so it's really kind of hasn't hit me yet but it really feels good.
とても興奮しています。私が初めてバスケをプレイした頃に祖父とテレビでキングスの試合を見ていました。その頃はまだキングスも小さなクラブでした。そして6年前に(bjリーグ)タイトルを獲得したときや、数年前にも私はキングスのゲームを観に行きました。そして今このようにあなたたちと記者会見をしている。本当にまだ実感が湧きませんが、とても素晴らしい気持ちです。
─千葉ジェッツでの優勝経験をどう活かしたいか、またキングスには並里選手と岸本選手の2人のガードがいるがこの2人とどう融合してプレイをしたいか？
I think, I have to say like Ryukyu was already a good team before I came so we shouldn't discredit that like it was one game that decided us going to the finals and Ryukyu going to the finals, so I'm already joining a great team ,I think.
琉球は私が来る前からすでに偉大なチームでした。(昨季セミファイナルで)ファイナルへの切符を分けたのは1つのゲームだった事に敬意を払っています。私はすでに偉大なチームの一員になったのだと思っています。
and then with Ryuichi and Namizato they we'd only three Okinawans on a team so I think it's more or less of how we gone represent Okinawa together and less about competing with each other and more about just making each other better.
そして(岸本)隆一と並里(成)、私を含めチームに沖縄出身選手が3人になりました。互いを競争相手というより、沖縄を代表する選手として共にプレイすることがお互いを高めあう事になると思います。
─沖縄に住んだ印象は？またキングスのバスケの印象、そして今季どんなバスケが出来ると感じている？
My impression Okinawa now it's just like corona is this has such a big effect on it and it still feels like home because I walk down the street and I think about when I was a kid sometimes so still feels like home, but obviously Corona shut down a lot of things so just looking forward to living here when it's not really have corona even though it'll probably always be around but still reminds me
今の沖縄の印象は、コロナ禍の影響は大きいですが、自分のホームのように感じています。通りを歩いていると自分が小さかった頃を思い出して故郷のように感じます。コロナ禍で街は多く自粛しており、いつになるか分かりませんがコロナが落ち着けば街を巡ってここに住む事を楽しみたいと思います。
Last year, I think Ryukyu really surprised me, they did really well really strong. I think top to bottom in the rostering as part of the reason why I went to join because everybody's good so if everybody's good they're gonna make me better, you know so iron sharpens iron pretty much.
昨季、琉球と戦った時に私はとても驚かされました。 入団を決めた理由のひとつは、ロスターの上から下まで全員良い選手なので、この選手達と一緒にプレイできれば自分もより良い選手になれる、まるで鉄は鉄で磨かれるような(切磋琢磨)ものです。
I mean we just wanna win as I feel like we got so many great pieces that you'll see flashes of everybody's greatness throughout this season. I think.

小寺ハミルトンゲイリー
Hello. I'm Hamilton Gary Kotera.
I'm here to help the team and just anyway. I can bring it like a veteran presence. I'm the oldest player on the team play on the team this season and you know I just want to be like that piece of the puzzle that keeps everybody like tighten it glued together, like a family thing. I come from big family. I have five siblings and so, you know I want to have that atmosphere going into the seasons, but that would be my biggest goal just try to help keep everybody together.

私はとにかくチームに貢献するためここに来ました。 ベテランとしての存在感をチームに与えるつもりです。 今季のチームで私は最年長プレーヤーです。皆を引き締めるような、家族のようにまとめるような、パズルのピースになりたいと思っています。 私の家族は大家族でした。 私には5人の兄弟がいるので、そんな家族のような雰囲気を今季作っていきたいと思っています。私の最大の目標は、チーム全員をひとつにする事に貢献することです。
I also feel like this is a great team already last year they had a very good season one the Western Conference and then just had a little downfall and the semi finals the end of losing but this is a team that I'm just looking forward to be able to just come in and just help right away you know, they don't need my talent as much as I need them, so I'm looking forward to it seemed just to help me reach my goals and become a better player as I'm getting older and my years of playing so I'm looking forward to getting started help doing that also.
また、昨季キングスはすでに素晴らしいチームでした。ウェスタンカンファレンスで非常に良いシーズンを過ごした後、少し落ち込み、セミファイナルで負けてしまったが素晴らしいチームだと感じています。このチームに入ってすぐに貢献するできることを楽しみにしています。
キングスが自分の才能を必要とする以上に自分がキングスを必要としていると思っています。このチームが自分が目指すゴールに導いてくれる、年齢を重ねるごとにより良いプレイヤーに成長させてくれる。貢献出来ることを楽しみにしています。
─昨季クーリー選手がセンターとしての負担が大きかったが、自身の役割はどう感じている？
I think we're starting off. I'll be able to just help prepare him just in practice. just throwing that big body at him and getting him prepared to see what he's going to face. I think I've just been doing a good job of that he's been kicking my ass in practice but you know I've been able to fight back and so I'm having a good time and just learning new things from him and doing that too. but yeah just to lighten the load on him and whatever I need to do to help to give him a few spare minutes. I'm looking forward to be able to help him do that so I think that's that's a dynamic. I would also be able to help bring is to give him a lesser load and some time to rest.
私たちはもう走り始めています。私は練習の中でクーリーとマッチアップする事で彼の助けになる事ができます。私の大きな体を彼にぶつけて、彼が試合で直面するであろう場面に備えさせています。彼は練習中に私をけしかけますが、私も負けじと戦う事が出来ているので、良い時間を過ごし、彼から新しいことを学び、それを実行しています。彼の負担を軽くして、彼に数分の休息を与えるために私がする必要があることは何でもします。そうやって彼に貢献できる事、そんなダイナミックな貢献ができる事を楽しみにしています。私は彼の負担を減らし、出場時間を与えることに協力できると思います。

My name is Allen Durham from Grand Rapids,Michigan. I'm 33 years old and I play forward.
ミシガン州グランドラピッズ出身のアレン・ダーラムです。33歳で、ポジションはフォワードです。
first off. I'm happy to be here with such a great club a team that's have great success in the past and stuff like that and so I'm happy to be able to to be a part and try to help them reach their goal again and stuff like that be at the peak of the league and stuff like that.
まず最初に、このような素晴らしいクラブ、過去に大きな成功を収めたチームの一員になれたことを嬉しく思いますし、再び目標を達成し、リーグの頂点に立つための手助けができることを願っています。
So, um going in my ultimate goal is to kind of improve from where I was last year kind of have a bounce back season, but also hopefully I can be that that tool to help the team get over the hump and though we can all rate that that trophy at the end.
私の最終的な目標は、昨年の自分よりもレベルアップして、バウンスバックできるシーズンにすることですが、それだけでなく、チームが困難を乗り越えるためのツールとなり、最後には全員でトロフィーを掲げることができればと思っています。
─沖縄という土地の印象、そして滋賀や新潟の所属してた頃の対戦相手としてのキングスの印象は？
um, yeah, I haven't been here very long but, you know from the few things that I have saw about the island it's very beautiful island um, obviously love the weather, you know it's a change from, you gotta you know being in the snow and stuff like that, so it's nice to walk out and see the sun and stuff like that
沖縄に来てまだそれほど時間が経っていませんが、すこし過ごした限りでは、とても美しい島だと思います。とても天候が良く、昨季は雪が多い地域で過ごしたので、ワークアウトをしたり太陽を浴びるのが楽しいです。
last season. I don't think, I play. I don't think we play we gotta or we, I don't think, we played you guys last year when I had came to it maybe it was before but um always watched you guys on TV and stuff like that and, you know you guys are very strong team and stuff like that and you know well ran organization and my teammate Jason, he had a lot of good things to say about the about the team and stuff like that in organization.
確か昨シーズンの(新潟との)対戦では私はプレイしていなかった。ですが、いつもテレビなどでキングスのことを見ていて、キングスはとても強いチームだと思いましたし、組織の運営もよく知っていますし、私のチームメイトだったジェイソン(ウォッシュバーン)も、チームのことや組織のことについてたくさん良いことを言っていました。
─ダーラム選手は攻撃力が持ち味の選手だと思うが、キングスのオフェンスをどのように組み立てていきたいか？
I mean this team has a pretty solid foundation, you know, so I'm just gonna come in and do my part in whatever the coach wants me to do or what my role to be that's what I have to do. I think this team is very versatile.We have a lot of good mixed with young players and Veterans and and stuff like that.So, I don't think I'm going to have to Overdo anything.I think everybody to do their job. We can be very successful team.
このチームはとても強固な基盤があります。なので私はチームの一員として、コーチが私に求める事や私の役割が何であれ、私がすべき自分の役割を遂行します。このチームは非常に多才で、若い選手やベテラン選手など多くの優秀な人材が揃っています。ですから、私が何かをやり過ぎる必要はないと思います。我々はチームとして大きな成功が出来るはずです。
─昨季のファイナリスト、千葉にはシャノン・ショーター、宇都宮にはLJ・ピークと3番ポジションで身体を張り何でもこなす選手がいてその重要性が増している。ダーラム選手自身として自分のポジション、役割をどう捉えている？
I mean,I definitely feel comfortable.You know,I'm not Austin.Not do a lot of ball-handling working on stuff so I can get more familiar with that type of role. Not like I said, I think on this thing we have so many weapons is going to be all about, you know, where the mismatches, you know, so, you know one night I might have the mismatched, you know, so will exploit that the next night it might be, you know, Jack or you know, whoever else you know, so I think if we just smart about how we approach every single game, we can really have great success.
私はそのような色々な役割を果たす事はできると自負しております。そのような役割を果たすためにボールハンドリングの練習も多くしています。ただ、私たちは多くの武器を持っているので、どこにミスマッチがあるかが重要になってくると思います。ある夜、私がミスマッチを持っていたとしても、次の夜にはジャックや他の誰かが持っているかもしれません。ですので、ひとつひとつのゲームに賢くアプローチすれば、大きな成功を収めることができると思います。
渡邉飛勇
（日本語で）みなさん初めまして。渡邉飛勇です。今シーズンの目的は、まずはチャンピオンシップ勝ちたいです。ストレングスは僕は大きいしジャンプは高くリバウンドは強い。
umm, And that's the thing I want to bring to the season for this team.
そしてそれを今季チームにもたらしたいと思います。
─東京オリンピックで代表選手に選出、出場機会は無かったがオリンピックを通じて学べた事、今季活かしたい事は？
I mean, I played with the best players that Japan has to offer throughout training camp and throughout the Olympics. So obviously, that was a huge experience and also being on the same stage is the France, the USA, Spain's Argentina's just showed that. I don't really have to be afraid of anything. And that any challenge that the B League throws at me. I'm going to give it 100%.
トレーニングキャンプからオリンピックまで、日本の最高の選手たちと一緒にプレーしました。フランス、アメリカ、スペイン、アルゼンチンと同じ舞台に立ったことは、とても大きな経験になりました。私は何も恐れる必要は無く、これからBリーグにおけるどんなチャレンジにも、100％の力を発揮する自信を持っています。
─チームメイトからはどんなニックネームで呼ばれている？また自分ではファンに何と呼んで欲しい？
Within the team they just call me Hugh. I don't really have a nickname yet. And you guys can call me whatever you want, Yeah.
チームでは、みんなにヒューと呼ばれています。まだニックネームは無いですね。 ファンにはお好きなニックネームをつけてもらえたらと思います。
─多くのオファーの中からキングスをプロのスタートと選んだ理由と、実際に入ったチームの雰囲気は？
So actually chose the kings before the Olympics and it was just the place where I was gonna grow the most at the fastest rates because that was my biggest goal heading into I was looking to 2023 because I didn't think I was gonna make the Olympics
and you know obviously facilities the you know, it's basically like my home in Hawaii, coaches, players, like I was just going to become the best version of Hugh I could be in the next, you know, however long that I'm here you know, so yeah, that's pretty much why I chose the kings and then once I got here it's better than I could expect. I mean, obviously I knew the facilities before what they were but the people here, you know, really good. I've really enjoyed my time so far and I've been growing my shots getting better my games getting better. Battling Jack every day. Yeah, it's going really well.
オリンピックの前にキングスを選んだのは、オリンピックに出場できるとは思っていませんでしたし、2023年が最大の目標だったので、ここが最速で最も成長できる場所だったんです。
ここは施設も整っていて、沖縄は故郷のハワイのようだし、コーチや選手たちもいて、ここにいる限り、最高の自分になれると思いました。施設のことは以前から知っていましたが、ここの人々は本当に良い人ばかりです。これまでの時間をとても楽しんでいますし、自分のショットも良くなり、自分のゲームも良くなっています。毎日ジャックともバトルしています。とてもうまくいっています。
─プレイタイムを勝ち取るために層の厚いこのチームで何をアピールしたいか、またプロ1年目の抱負は？
I think that kind of goes hand-in-hand because I think the only way I get playing time is if I play Within myself into my strengths and then how this season, I wanted to go for me is figure out routines and figure out the ups and downs of the season and you know, obviously get better at behind the scenes and how much time I can devote to that versus recovery and Giving it all to my team. Also growing by myself that balance of growing and playing for the team is I have to find this season. Then we'll, we'll, we'll see how it goes.
自分の強みを生かしたプレーをすることでしか、出場機会を得ることはできないと思います。今シーズンの目標は、ルーティンワークを理解し、シーズンの浮き沈みを把握し、影の努力をすることで、自分のリカバリーやチームへの貢献にどれだけの時間を割くことができるかを考えることです。また、自分自身の成長とチームのためにプレーすることのバランスを、今シーズン中に見つけなければなりません。そして様子を見ていきたいと思います。
─バレーボールもプレイしていたとの事だが、ジャンプの最高到達点は？また将来成長した時に海外でプレイしたい目標はあるか？
for how high jump? I haven't measured it in a year, but beginning of last year at Davis' has like 32 inches.
垂直跳びですか？ここ1年は測っていませんが、去年の初め(カリフォルニア大学)デービス校では32インチ(約81センチ)くらいありました。
and then, The goals wise like obviously I think the only like big long-term goal for me is 2023 World Cup for Japan basketball, but other than that and obviously winning a championship. Other than those two things. I'm more focused on in today and tomorrow cuz I don't want to look too far and have too many things to look forward to. Yeah, I just For the most part today and tomorrow is the most important thing to me and trying to bring everything that I can every day. Cuz that's what being a pro means. I can't really have an off-day.
目標としては、長期的には2023年の日本バスケットボールのワールドカップが唯一の大きな目標だと思いますが、そしてやはり(Bリーグ)優勝ですね。その2つ以外のことでは、、自分の哲学として今日と明日に集中しています。なぜなら、あまり遠くを見たくないし、足をすくわれてしまいます。私にとっては、今日と明日が最も重要であり、毎日自分が出来る事を全力でしたいと思っています。それがプロというものだからです。オフの日はありません。
